Employee Spotlight

What’s your role at Preqin and what does it entail? 

I joined Preqin as a Senior Engineer on the Platform team. My role involves designing, implementing, and optimizing processes across our engineering teams. Additionally, I am responsible for establishing standards and promoting best practices within the company.  

What have you been working on recently? 

I started my first project with the Orion team, where we built different multi-level workflows for our research team to get the latest updates about different news, filings, and industry data more quickly. I then moved to the user management team, which is responsible for managing the user access, permissions, packages, and claims for our products. 

Shortly after I joined Preqin, I won the Software Engineer Award at the Everywoman in Technology Awards 2024. The judges were looking for evidence of nominees progressing the art of software engineering, which I think these projects showcased!  

Do you get the chance to work on different projects and grow your skill set? 

Having worked across two separate teams, I've already been involved in different types of projects, which has been fantastic. These projects include our queue system for managing contacts, and then the workflow system for filings from clients and firms in the industry.  

Working on user management, I've also had the chance to contribute to a project that involves connecting news aggregators so that we have the most up-to-date and accurate data.  

I also hold a master's degree in data science and am eager to continue learning while working as a Software Engineer. Our Head of Analytics and Data Science, Thomas Tosstorff, has been incredibly supportive on this journey. 

What made you want to join Preqin? 

I am a big advocate of women in technology and have helped mentor women in the space, or those wanting to enter it. When interviewing with Preqin I found out that there were more men than women in the Engineering team, so I took it as an opportunity to help bring balance and a fresh perspective to the department. 

I have also always been interested in finance and fintech, so Preqin was a great fit.  

What is the engineering culture like at Preqin? 

I have been blessed with such great managers at Preqin, all of whom gave me the opportunity to grow my skills across software development and data science. They’re very supportive of personal growth. People across the team are always happy to help too.  

I also like that the managers in the Engineering team are always very understanding with colleagues that have kids, which you don’t often see in other companies.
